Regina teaches workshops exploring story, language, and life. 
 She has taught school residencies and staff development workshops through Arts Horizons and  Young Audiences NY.  She has led workshops for adults at The NY Open Center,  Omega Institute, The National Storytelling Conference, National TESOL Conference, as well as for international storytelling festivals in Rio de Janeiro and Madrid. 
She teaches a graduate course on storytelling in the classroom and beyond for New York University’s Steinhardt School,
 Program in Educational Theatre.

Regina offers workshops for parents, teachers, after school staff and other
child care givers in using story as a way to explore with children the world
and themselves. Whether our goal is to teach a subject or to find ways to relate to
 and engage the children, we explore educational and enjoyable activities using
 story and storytelling. We work with traditional, spontaneously created
and personal stories. These workshops are informative, participatory and lots of fun.

ADI, SONG OF AGAN:  
Working With The Long Poetic ‘Other”
 
Adi, Song of Agan is a magnificent example of oral literature from the indigenous peoples of  Borneo.  
 
In this workshop/showcase, Regina tells portions and discusses working with long poetic material and the challenges of editing and performing it for American audiences while maintaining  the intentions of the original culture. 
 
There is participatory discussion on finding ways into this and other complex and (seemingly) alien materialin this presentation for tellers and teachers interested in 
such difficult material.

FOLKTALES AND STORYTELLING IN THE ESL/LITERACY CLASSROOM

Storytelling is a marvelous vehicle for teaching ESL (English as a Second Language), language arts in general and literacy. This highly participatory workshop focuses on telling stories and creating creative, communicative classroom activities with them.  Folk tales support the practice  of the “four skills” (listening, speaking, reading and writing), teach  vocabulary, functions and grammar while encouraging cross cultural awareness and personal expression. Open  up your storytelling to the wonderful diversity of language that enriches our world.  Without being fluent, a  storyteller can incorporate words and phrases of the original language in to the telling of a tale, adding flavor and texture that deepens the story experience. For nearly two thousand years, the mysteries of Demeter and Persephone were at the center of Mediterranean spirituality. Demeter was the Greek Goddess of Grain, her daughter, Persephone, was a young maiden snatched away to be the wife of Hades, Lord of the Underworld. With the myth of Demeter and Persephone as the core of the work, we explore the archetypes of Mother and Daughter through
 their story,  our own stories, visual art and song.
 
Regina has led this and other Women’s Councils exploring our Selves 
in relation to the stories of a wide range of Goddesses at The NY Open Center, Temenos Retreat Center, Rana’s Farm and other locations.
